Las Ramblas is a beautiful street in the centre of Barcelona that has become a very popular place for both locals and tourists and it is often used as the representative symbol of Barcelona. It is wide and surrounded by trees with a length of about 2 kilometers.
There are few parts of the avenue:
Ramblas de Canaletes
Ramblas de Canalete, which can be translated as "The Rambla of the Fountain", is the first section of the street. There is a beautiful small fountain with a design of the 19th century. Today it is the main meeting point for Barcelonans. It is believed that people who drink the water of this fountain will always come back to Barcelona.
Rambla dels Estudis
This is the second part of Las Ramblas. It is often also called "Rambla dels Ocells" or "The Rambla of birds" because there are cages with bird, which makes this place full of life. The word "estudis" in the name of this stretch comes from the university that was located in this part of the street in the 16th century. Here you can find various services, such as cafes, restaurants and shops. The largest market in the country is also here.
Rambla de Sant Josep
It was named after a convent, but since now it is replaced by lively markets and flowers; it is now more often called "The Rambla of the Flowers". Here you can also see some great statues. This stretch of the street is also usually full of street artists and entertainers.
Rambla dels Caputxins
This part of Las Ramblas is named after monastery. Here is the worldwide famous Teatre del Liceu, which is an opera house that has been the starting point of many famous opera singers.
Later on you can find the Royal Square. It is surrounded by exotic palm trees and nice catering places.
If you go further down Las Ramblas you will see Pla de la Boqueria. It is a place with an abundant history. It used to be a place of executions in the past, then it became a meat market, but today it is a place of the pavement mosaic that was created by the famous Barcelonian Joan Miro.
Rambla Santa Monica
This is the last stretch of the exciting avenue and the most artistic part of Las Ramblas. It was named after the convents, which later become an arts centre. Here are many
location blanes caricaturists, who will draw you, if you like. It is next to the port and the statue of Columbus.
Rambla de Mar
It leads us to the port and the beach boardwalk. Here you can also find cafes and shops.
